Army Life: Reenlisting Indef

AWC > Military Life > Army Life:  Reenlisting Indef

Wow.  It's that time.  The time my husband says I will stay with you for 20 or more to the U.S. Army.  He's already been in over 14 years. To think he's been with the Army longer than me, his wife.

It feels like he has climbed the slide, and he's almost to the top.  This is a slide you can only do once.  So it's exciting and sad all at one time.  I'm so proud of the dedication my husband has shown to his children, family, fellow Soldiers, and country.

I wanted to share his last reenlistment with all of you.

Commissary Closes & Sam's Club Opens It's Doors to Military

AWC > Discounts & Savings > Commissary Closes & Sam's Club Opens It's Doors to Military

When one door closes, another one opens.

I know we are late to the party. I saw the stories swirling around the internet last night about Sam's Club and how they're letting military members & their dependents have access to their stores while the Commissaries are closed.

39,0000+ Soldiers & their families live on Fort Bragg. Today, as one of them, I decided to venture out to Sam's Club! This experience is based on the Sam's Club near Fort Bragg.

Let's Stop Sleepy Driving. Give Soldiers A Safe Ride Home.

AWC > Military Life > Let's Stop Sleepy Driving.  Give Soldiers A Safe Ride Home

If you have a Soldier in your life, you've probably heard them talk about their safety briefings.  They are warned against all sorts of reckless behaviors.  There's something unsafe that's been going on for decades on Military Installations across the U.S.  It's a reckless behavior that's been tolerated and it's as bad as drinking and driving.  What is it?  It's 24 hour duty and driving.

On Friday, September, 13, my husband and I had the opportunity to see the AMAZING Lt. Dan Band.  We bought VIP tickets to the concert because this concert was special.  It was a benefit concert for 2 American Heroes, MSG John Masson (Army) and SSGT Thomas McRea (Marines).  It was also a wonderful opportunity for my husband and me to have a date night.

Reintegration: The Road Back After Korea - Part 1 - The Beginning

AWC > Military Life > Reintegration:  The Road Back After Korea

As most or all of you know, my husband spent the last year at Camp Hovey in South Korea.  As most people would be, I was so excited for my husband's homecoming that I forgot, that one of hardest part was yet to come.

A hardship tour is a lot different from a deployment in a lot of respects because during deployment there are reintegration meetings and FRG's are there to assist you with anything that you might need right before a deployment ends.  However, during a hardship tour you don't have any of that.

AWC > Military Life > American Military Spouses Choir sings, "HERO" on America's Got Talent

I tend to stay away from any shows that highlight Military Life.  It might not be for why you think.  Anytime I see a reunion photo or hear the stories of deployment, it takes me right back to the day my husband came home.  It feels like it was yesterday.  My heart starts to pound, tears start falling from my eyes, and I remember the moment I saw him again after a 1 year deployment.

"the day he came home"
It shouldn't surprise you then that I didn't watch the whole show on America's Got Talent.  I couldn't watch the teasers that NBC was doing for the upcoming appearance of the American Military Spouses Choir.  They highlighted the challenges we as Military Spouses and Families face.  I did keep checking back thought!  I wasn't going to miss it.

Reunions & Unions

AWC > Military Life > Reunions & Unions

Defense Update: Of Reunions and Unions (via The Moderate Voice)
There is nothing more touching and gratifying than the sight of our troops being reunited with their loved ones — sometimes for the first time with a “brand new” one — after a prolonged deployment. There is, in my opinion, not a more loyal, brave and intelligent animal than a military working…

The kiddos arrived last night! Just in time for the 4th of July!  Although there will not be fireworks on post this year, there are fireworks in our hearts.  An excitement because Mackenzie & Danny are here.

It's that time of month.  The time when stepchildren across the land descend on military posts.  I've written about this before, "July, the Month of the Military Stepchild".

I dont even know where to begin on this, talk about a roller coaster ride!

My husbands homecoming date was June 6th at 23:20(11:20pm).  I counted down the days, hours, minutes and seconds for about a MONTH!  On Wednesday the 5th, my husband was headed for the airport at Osan Airbase in South Korea.    I was on edge, full of butterflies and incredibly nervous!  I didn't sleep that night because my husband was 14 hrs ahead and I wanted to make sure that everything went smoothly.  I don't know what difference it makes, it was all out of my control anyway! He arrived at Osan airbase where his flight was SUPPOSED to leave at 09:30 local time, which is about 20:30(8:30pm) my time.

Drill Weekends

LOVE THIS POST

AWC > Military Life > Drill Weekends

One of the reasons I joined this blog was to enlighten others about the life of a Reserves family. So far I’ve found this hard to do, as there really isn’t much to share-at least not yet. I know some have wondered what drill weekends are like and how they affect our family. So with drill being this weekend for us I thought I’d share a little about it.

My Battle with PPD: Part 2

LOVE THIS POST?
AWC > Pregnancy > My Battle with PPD - Part 2

Note: First and most importantly before I start this highly sensitive blog, I want to make sure that everyone understands that I am no medical expert!  The opinions and views expressed in this blog are solely my own and are not intended to diagnose PPD.  Please contact your medical doctor for any advice or diagnosis of this topic.

In Part I of my My Battle with PPD, I let you into my very personal experience with PPD. Once I had an official diagnosis of PPD, at first I felt like I was under a microscope. I felt like I was being really careful about what Isaid to doctors because I didn't want anyone to think that I was a bad mother or that I couldn't take care of my daughter. Those were all very real emotions for me, and I was almost felt like that is what was happening even though it wasn't happening like that at all. My doctor was amazing and very understanding of what I was feeling. In my experience, PPD is something that I find many people don't want to talk about or have a negative perception of. PPD is NOT something to be ashamed of, nor is it a bad thing, its your bodies natural response to having a baby. PPD is unpredictable, easy to recognize by a medical professional and is 100% curable.
