Thank you for all of your support and well wishes during this time!

AWC > Fitness & Weightloss > The Ability to Go the Distance Lies Between Your Ears

There is an undeniable connection between your mind and body.  And therefore your thoughts & attitude are directly correlated to your physical well-being.  I would even argue that your ability to stay positive and to motivate yourself is the single greatest factor in your ability to reach health and fitness goals.  Changing bad habits and creating more healthy ones takes time and is not easy.  I know you know that.

The Homecoming That Almost Never Was

A few weeks before my husband came home, I decided to seek out a homecoming photographer who could document the moment.  My husband had been deployed before – to Iraq in 2008.  When he returned home, I had my camera ready with full intentions of getting some good photos of his homecoming ceremony.  However, too busy with being in the moment, I got none.  That makes me sad because if someday I do not have the ability to remember the first homecoming I ever had, I have absolutely no photos of that special day.

Defense Update: Of Reunions and Unions (via The Moderate Voice)
There is nothing more touching and gratifying than the sight of our troops being reunited with their loved ones — sometimes for the first time with a “brand new” one — after a prolonged deployment. There is, in my opinion, not a more loyal, brave and intelligent animal than a military working…

The kiddos arrived last night! Just in time for the 4th of July!  Although there will not be fireworks on post this year, there are fireworks in our hearts.  An excitement because Mackenzie & Danny are here.

It's that time of month.  The time when stepchildren across the land descend on military posts.  I've written about this before, "July, the Month of the Military Stepchild".

How To Avoid Overeating At Summer BBQ's

AWC > Fitness & Weightloss >  How To Avoid Overeating At Summer BBQ's

I was born with an innate patriotic spirit.  When I was young, my family used to go to Oriole's games at the old Oriole's Stadium.  Even at a young 6 or 7 years old, I would tear up and well up with pride during the National Anthem.  So naturally, I love Independence Day.  I love the anticipation of a long break from work, the excitement of gathering for fireworks and of course I love the BBQ's.  But there's nothing worse than overshadowing the amazing fireworks display with feeling sluggish and bloated from eating one too many hotdogs and far too much potato salad.

We can still enjoy all of our favorite BBQ foods without sabotaging our fitness and weight loss goals.  All it takes is a little forethought and self discipline and you'll be partying it up without any post-BBQ remorse.

Here's 4 quick tips to help you out!
