At our latest midwife appointment the midwife and I spoke about all my "issues" (PCOS, MTHFR, gestational diabetes, a past pregnancy testing positive for Trisomy 16). She asked if I would like to have a blood test done called the AFP Tetra Screen.
This test is to screen your pregnancy for Open Neural Tube Defects, Down Syndrome, and Trisomy 18. Before the test, you are assigned a ratio based on age of your chances for having each of these. Then, based on the bloodwork taken you are given another ratio which either puts the pregnancy above or below a cover line (high or low risk).
She did state that this test was only to see what your chances were and not a definitive test. Since I've had so many things happen in the past I went ahead and decided to do it.
